Gautam Gambhir unhappy with KL Rahul: In a heart-wrenching final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Australia shattered India’s hopes of claiming their third World Cup title. Despite setting a target of 240 runs, India fell short as Australia clinched victory by six wickets in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

India’s Batting Woes and Gambhir’s Critique

India’s innings saw a promising start with captain Rohit Sharma’s quick 47 off 31 balls. However, former cricketer Gautam Gambhir criticized the team’s lack of aggression in the middle overs. KL Rahul (66 off 107), Ravindra Jadeja (9 off 22), and Suryakumar Yadav (18 off 28) failed to capitalize on the momentum, resulting in a below-par score.

Gambhir expressed his disappointment, stating, “The most courageous team wins the World Cup. Between 11 to 40 overs is a long time. Someone should have taken this risk.” He particularly emphasized KL Rahul’s missed opportunity to be more aggressive during his partnership with Virat Kohli, where they added 67 runs for the fourth wicket.

Gambhir’s Call for Bravery in Batting Approach

“India was not brave enough,” Gambhir remarked, urging the team to adopt a bolder strategy. He argued that a more aggressive approach, even if it meant risking a lower total, could have resulted in a formidable score exceeding 300. Gambhir emphasized that in the modern era, a score of 240 is not competitive, and the team needed to show more courage to secure victory.

India’s Struggle Against Australian Bowlers

India’s timid approach in the middle overs played into the hands of Australian bowlers. Adam Zampa (1/44, 10 overs), Pat Cummins (2/34, 10 overs), Mitchell Marsh (0/5, 2 overs), and Travis Head (0/4, 2 overs) capitalized on the situation, delivering economical spells. This lack of aggression ultimately led to India’s downfall, as Australia easily achieved the target, dashing India’s hopes of securing a World Cup win on home soil for the second time.
